NSASA Year End Newsletter

December 2024

NSASA celebrates this amazing year!

Welcome to NSASA’s 2024 year-end newsletter! We are so excited to share the wonderful things that we have accomplished this year.

We have had tremendous growth in our membership during the past twelve months. NSASA has continued to add space to our events to

accommodate our growing community. It has been a pleasure to meet so many new individuals and their families. It is a joy to see them experience NSASA’s free programs for the first time, and to watch them grow as they continue to join us again and again.

We would like to express our gratitude to all of our sponsors, donors and volunteers. With your support, we have been able to increase our programming and provide support to thousands of families this year.

Our members have created friendships that reach beyond our events. We have partnered with new community organizations that believe in the mission of our organization.

At NSASA, we will continue to work on creating connections, empowering everyone in the Autism community with the resources needed to live fully. It is our vision to create a world where everyone in the Autism community is connected to the support they need, when they need it.

Our organization relies on the kindness and support of our community. If you are able to donate your time or resources during Autism Awareness Month (April) or anytime throughout the year, please reach out to us.

Together, we can make a real difference in the lives of those who need it most. Thank you for your continued support!

Happy New Year!

Stand Up for Autism

We ended this year with some amazing events! In November, we hosted our annual Stand Up for Autism event at the Landmark on Main. This year we added something new to the lineup- music! The night started off with raffles, cocktails, appetizers, and desserts. We had an amazing line up of comedians, including emcee Michele Fox, comedians Jen Snorteland, Eric Haft, Mike Keegan, and John Ziegler. After they entertained the packed house, we were treated to an incredible musical performance by the Stowaways. They brought down the house with their covers of the Beach Boys, Fleetwood Mac, Queen, and more. It was an epic night! We can’t wait to do it again next year!

Grant News

NSASA was honored to be the recipient of some amazing new grants in 2024. Thanks to Stew Leonard’s Step into Swim Grant, we were able provide individualized swim lessons to 25 members allowing them to begin to learn lifesaving water safety skills in a supported environment.

The Marilyn Litchman Foundation awarded a grant to NSASA. This funding allows our young adult and group home members to participate in healthy living and movement program at Bounce. Learning to make healthy food choices and focusing on movement and exercise are integral skills.

The Anton Foundation, the AHRC Foundation, and Rewired for Autism continue to be valued partners and supporters of NSASA through their grant programs. We have received so many generous donations from the community in numbers big and small. We could not provide our programs without your support. Thank you!

New Programs

This year we launched some new opportunities with wonderful community partners. OneRiver Art School in Woodbury partnered with NSASA to offer the Adventure Art program. Members created one-of-a-kind creations using clay, spray paint and various objects. They also had the chance to explore sound with sound bowls. The staff at OneRiver embraced our families and made the experience memorable. They even gave back to our community by

NSASA also partnered with Bricks n Mini Figs in Babylon. They opened their party space up for our families where they could let their imaginations run free and create using colorful bricks. The team at Bricks n Mini Figs provided our members with lots of fun activities to try and helped them to make fun and amazing brick creations. Bricks n Minifigs also supported NSASA by hosting a fundraiser for our organization in November.

First Responder Training

NSASA with a generous grant from the Department of Justice, NSASA partnered with trainers William Cannata from (ALEC) Autism and Law Enforcement Education Coalition and James Donohoe from the Take Me Home Program to provide autism awareness training to more than 1000 First Responders across New York State. Starting in April 2022 and culminating this September 2024, these trainings focused on communicating key factors about autism, interacting with our population, important safety information and more. The goal has been to provide vital information about the population to help save lives.

Fundraising in 2024

This year NSASA has continued to fulfill its mission of empowering everyone without fear or judgment in a welcoming environment. Our goal is to support individuals with autism in our local community by offering free recreational and social activities and events they can participate in with their families in a safe and supportive environment.

In order to make this mission a reality NSASA relies on various fundraising platforms including grants, annual events like our Golf Outing, Autism Acceptance Month Campaign, Bike to the Beach and Community partners and sponsors. This year NSASA created a new partnership with the LI Nets for Linking Long Island, a wonderful event and game that helped to bringing awareness about autism to the Long Island Community.

2024 marked a significant growth in membership as we have added over 1000 new members! With this growth comes a need to increase our fundraising to support the community we are privileged to serve. It would be impossible to name all of our supporters in this newsletter. We are grateful for all of them!
